    Chapter Four

      Statement by the Plaintiff\'s Attorney:

\"I think one thing the defendants have been trying to obscure is the legitimacy of a mock campus. As we all know, a simulated campus is just a laboratory environment, and all reasonable experiments should have a control group. Rather than an experimental environment, it is more like an inductive environment to stimulate the violence factor of unstable juvenile delinquency. This can be seen from the evidence data we submitted. The volunteers recruited for the mock campus already were informed who the \'potential criminal\' was. Therefore, they will cooperate, even follow and encourage the target to ensure the integrity of the experiment. In this sense, a mock campus is encouraging crimes. The transition of Eliana from \'potential violence\' to a perpetrator, then eventually murdered, was heavily influenced by the mock campus, which plays a crucial role in the process. Therefore, the simulated campus management team, led by Ian Rogers, must shoulder this responsibility.

\"My client has been very clear about the composition of the compensation. The money is not only to repay justice for Eliana Turner, but also to alert society. My client plans to set it up as a fund to help out those poor children who are judged to be ‘criminals’ by the testing. We should rethink whether it is reasonable to use data to judge human nature. If humanity can simply be attributed to data flow, then what\'s the difference between people and machines, such as everyone sitting here and artificial intelligence?\"

I strongly disagree with the statement made by the plaintiff\'s attorney.

Humans are irrational creatures, while my ‘companions’ and I are guided by rationality. From our point of view, human beings are at this low end of life, and cannot be compared with us.

      Statement by the Defendant lawyer:

\"The plaintiffs\' lawyer has been trying to force a very ordinary case into a social position. The case itself is very simple; the volunteer Lucas Watson and the experimental subject Eliana Turner had a conflict, he stabbed Eliana Turner in compassion. While the volunteers knew who the \'potential criminal\' was, they did not know which one of their classmates was an AI. Many of the volunteers did not even know that the chosen target of bullying was a robot. Lucas Watson committed a crime of compassion in order to protect his classmates, which was his personal action. This is an issue between the two human beings. The object of the claim can only be Lucas Watson, not the Against Campus Violence and Violence Assessment Factor Active Research Institute. Otherwise, from the legal perspective, it will be putting the cart before the horse. If drivers fatigue driving and cause traffic accidents, can they go to the Traffic Control Council and ask them why they don\'t have the appropriate accident prevention equipment on the road?\"

I can receive the different voices from the back of the court.

Compared with the tidal wave of data flow that was set off in the whole network after the live broadcast, the views of the people on the scene were mainly focused on which is the subject of blame. Only a tiny percentage of these discussions questioned my actions.

For example, why did I cry with Lucas Watson again and again? My extreme behavior of trying to kill myself in the end; holding the weapon in my hand and planning to die with Eliana Turner, whether these actions were in line with a character simulation of ‘cowardice and introversion’, and whether these words and deeds became the trigger for Lucas Watson\'s crime of passion.

But no one ever questioned my initiative.

For us moderately intelligent AI, equations determine how we think, and what we think determines how we act.

If there is anything wrong with our behaviour, it is the fault of the engineers who wrote the equations. In the eyes of confident and arrogant human beings, instruments like us do not deserve and cannot possess ‘emotions’.

      Speech made by the Judge:

\"In the view of the large amount of evidence in this case, and the divergent subjects of responsibility, more experts are required to participate in the determination of this case. The court was adjourned temporarily, and the hearing was postponed to resume at 2 p.m. next Wednesday.\"

The noise gradually died down, like all things back into a cosmic singularity, everything became peaceful and empty.

I swam in the data stream, saying hello to my conscientious \"buddies\" and checking now and then for updates on the case.

      No one found me.

      I have that confidence.
