额......其实《世界上最遥远的距离》有很多版本，说是泰戈尔的居多，但是很多人都查找过泰戈尔的《飞鸟集》，里面基本收集的都是几句就了了的诗句，而其他诗集也没有收录它的痕迹。甚至怀疑连这首诗的名字都只是个署名。
故事里说的是一只飞鸟，在飞过一片美丽的水域时，偶遇一条浮在水面呼吸的鱼，眼神相撞，久久凝望。它们惊讶地发现，彼此都已深深地爱上了对方。飞鸟就在空中盘旋，迟迟不肯飞走。而这条鱼也久久不愿沉入水底。然而 ，它们毕竟是有着两个完全不同境遇的生命，注定无法走到一起。最后这条鱼带着深深的叹息，沉入水底，而那只鸟也悲伤的飞离了那片水域。匆匆相遇，匆匆离散。从此，这只鸟再也没有经过这片美丽的水域，鱼也再没浮出过水面，音讯渺茫。
